Mike Zane,  DXing,  St. Thomas, US Virgin Island

In March of 2001 (17 - 31) Mike Zane, N6ZW/KP2 , traveled down to St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands on vacation and to do a little DXing.
Mike's first apartment was on the second floor of a 3 story building then the second week Mike and his wife moved into a loft apartment on the 3rd floor where he was able to erect his antenna.
Mike took his new FT-100 and also a MFJ switching power supply.  Mike found that the MFJ worked as well as his Yaesu power supply and that it was smaller and lighter.  Mike also had his home brew mobile whip antenna using Hustler coils.  This was Mikes only antenna as there were no trees or other building to erect a dipole.  Mike could not get the 20 meter swr to go lower than 3:0 so he just used 15 and 10 meters.
Mike was able to make 65 contacts and 15 were with IPARC members from Ca to FL.  Mike also worked the WPX party contest using QRP and enjoyed that very much.

All in all Mike's log shows 15 IPA contacts, 16 dx contacts, 36 US contacts during a total of 4 hours of operation over a two week period.

Mike says these iguanas were all over the place, some getting up to 2 1/2 feet long

Good Job Mike, where are you off to in 2002?
